रात्रीची भेट

.समुद्र करडा, भू प्रदेश लांब लांब काळा,
अन क्षितिजावर मोठा अर्ध चंद्र तो पिवळा |
अन उड्या मारती, भिवविती छोट्या लाटा,
सोडून स्तब्धता, ज्वालासम,वलयांकित वाटा |
आवेगे गाठी होडी मग लहानशी खाडी ,
ओली वाळू, वेगा शांत करून सोडी |
.
उबदार किनारा खारा,पसरे अर्धा कोस,
ओलांडून शेते तीन, मग शेतघराची वेस |
खिडकीवर टकटक, तत्काळ करकर जोरात,
अन पेटत्या काडीचा निळा झोत क्षणात |
आणि भय आनंदाचे अनावर ते उद्गार,
दो हृदयांची धडधड त्याहून मोठी फार...|

.
The grey sea and the long black land;
And the yellow half-moon large and low;
And the startled little waves that leap
In fiery ringlets from their sleep,
As I gain the cove with pushing prow,
And quench its speed i' the slushy sand.
.
Then a mile of warm sea-scented beach;
Three fields to cross till a farm appears;
A tap at the pane, the quick sharp scratch
And blue spurt of a lighted match,
And a voice less loud, thro' its joys and fears,
Than the two hearts beating each to each.
